Meal Plan: Week 25, 2024 – Fathers Day and Pagan Viking Celebration

This past weekend, we celebrated Father’s Day. On this day, we honor living and past fathers and men who take on a fatherly role in a person’s life.

I decided to write a post about the original Viking Heart Warrior, my dad. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2010, and I continue to miss his humor and loving character. You can read the article here.

Juneteenth

This week, we have the awesome gift of a national holiday. Well, mainly federal offices observe the holiday, but more corporations are starting to offer Juneteenth as well.

What is Juneteenth?

A couple of years after Lincoln’s Emancipation speech in 1863, we had a second Independence Day. When the army arrived in Texas, it was finally announced that the remaining slaves were free. This day came to be known as Juneteenth.

Hint! It happened on June 19th, 1865

A Pagan Viking Celebration

For the last three years, our family has hosted a family & friends BBQ event, which coincides with the Danish pagan tradition called Skt. Hans.

During the feast, we burn some shit, grill some meat, drink some beer, burn some more shit, and then laugh a lot.

Skt. Hans could be considered a Danish midsummer celebration as it usually falls around 21 June, the half-year mark.

Per tradition, we invited over a bunch of friends and their kids. I prepared a few BBQ treats such as shotgun shells, loaded sausages, burgers, queso, pasta, and potato salads, and a good friend brought homemade baked beans and a Chinese-inspired chicken dish.

I used the opportunity to celebrate the inauguration of our new outdoor kitchen and entertainment areas.

It was a great success. We laughed a lot. Ate a lot. Drank too much, and did some sketchy shit. But everybody enjoyed themselves, which was the most critical part.

Week Twenty-five Meals

Nothing is planned for the week as we are living off leftovers from the Pagan Viking celebration, schools are half days due to exams, and we have a holiday midweek.

School Lunches

I’m making power snacks for our daughter as she’s sitting exams this week.

Our son has a few excursions, including lunch, so a light week for school lunches.

Dinner Time

For dinner, we ate burgers, coleslaw, hotdogs, baked beans, and a few freezer meals. There was nothing exciting this week.
