This is one of my favorite Danish songs, by the late Danish legend Kim Larsen.
I listened intensely to many of his songs while I was going through depression as a result of my health scare. It gave me comfort while at the same time made me long for my native country. I wanted to be close to my family as I was going through this ordeal.
Listening to Kim Larsen allowed me to reminisce about my childhood, and gave me the strength to fight this as I wanted to reunite with my mother and sister in the near future.
Google Translate’s attempt to translate the lyrics 🙂
Back then when I was little
there were trams
who said ding dang
And ghosts
who stood and grinned ‘
in the dark staircase
I closed my eyes
pretended nothing
and ran past
out in the open
Back then when I was little
Back then when I was little
The world was wonderful
Back then when I was little
the skinned ‘sun over
Peblingesøen
Daddy played ‘billiards
and mom went and
criticized the queue
And little sister stood by
the kitchen window and said look!
It’s starting to snow!
Back then when I was little
Back then when I was little
The world was wonderful
That’s the strangest
Christmas that I’ve had
the branches of a broom shaft
Back then when I was little
there was nothing
that was over
Back then when I was little
Back then when I was little
The world was wonderful
Loved this song. Thanks for sharing!
