I’ve always been a fan of slasher movies, and in particular the early Friday the 13th series, but after he went to space I kind of turned my attention to other movies within that genre.
When I was younger, so much younger than today, I was mad into drawing scary images, making masks and special effects, painting dungeon ‘n dragons figures and listening the heavy metal. The heavy metal I listened to back then is now classic rock and the dudes are about to retire!
Now I just enjoy watching these movies, amazed by the special effects and the shitty story line. Big boops, naked girls, “don’t go back into the room” idiocracy and 90 minutes of no-story line. It was amazing the amount of details they could squeeze into 90 minutes, how many people were slashed and yet no real story – just pure slasher. I laughed and wasted another 90 minutes.
These days, it’s no easy finding someone to watch these movies with, especially not girls. They are too sqeemish even though they are the toughest of the genders when it comes to giving birth.
But, some years ago, when meeting my beautiful (and hot) wife, back then she was “just” my hot girlfriend, I wanted to share the horror movie experience with her. Primarily because I knew she would cuddle up next to me and secondly because I enjoyed watching these movies.
So, the agreement was made to watch a slasher movie every time it was Friday the 13th. It doesn’t happen that often, so we needed to make it a special/fun experience.
Despite this agreement, we’ve actually never managed to watch a slasher movie together. We’ve started some movies, but I always had to turn it off or carry her to bed, basically because she suddenly developed an acute sleepiness!
It’s not that I hold a grudge, but I’ve calculated the amount of Friday the 13th since, just in case I get told we haven’t had that many of them. So, here we go. Friday 13th since 1998:
- Friday, February 13, 1998
- Friday, March 13, 1998
- Friday, November 13, 1998
- Friday, August 13, 1999
- Friday, October 13, 2000
- Friday, April 13, 2001
- Friday, July 13, 2001
- Friday, September 13, 2002
- Friday, December 13, 2002
- Friday, June 13, 2003
- Friday, February 13, 2004
- Friday, August 13, 2004
- Friday, May 13, 2005
- Friday, January 13, 2006
- Friday, October 13, 2006
- Friday, April 13, 2007
- Friday, July 13, 2007
- Friday, June 13, 2008
- Friday, February 13, 2009
- Friday, March 13, 2009
- Friday, November 13, 2009
- Friday, August 13, 2010
- Friday, May 13, 2011
- Friday, January 13, 2012
- Friday, April 13, 2012
Using a simple table formatting I’ve calculated that we’ve had 25 Friday the 13th, which should have amounted to at least 25 slasher movies. If you add up the amount of movies we’ve started, then we might have seen 2 full lenght movies.
Oh well, there’ll be plenty more opportunities in the future. And, thankfully I don’t need to put on slasher movies just to get a hug 🙂
