Today is an App Day

Apple has in recent days released their latest APP offspring – APP Store for the Mac.

You might wonder what that is, but it’s in fact as simple as it sounds.

It’s an application that allows you to buy and install APPS directly onto your Mac.  Not for iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc. but for your Mac G4, iMac, MacBook, Air, MBP – all the lovely and awesome Mac machines out there.

Yes, you can get Angry Birds, which was in fact the first APP I bought yesterday.  It looks weird and yet very cool on my 27″ iMac. 🙂

Anyway, the applications you can buy are of course more advanced than the iPhone/iPad APPS you can get, meaning they are full blown applications such as iWork, Web site tools and games.

They do have free APPS as well, but they seem to be more utilities or demos, so be prepared to install and un-install these.

The cool thing is, you no longer need to buy CDs and license keys, as these come with the APP.  AND, the applications will be updated automatically through the App Store interface.

So, what do you need to get started?  Well, you need:

  • Snow Leopard
  • Healthy credit card  …    and
  • Plenty of HDD space

…oh, to install APP Store on your Mac, simply run the Software Update.  Voila!

Happy shopping 🙂
