Money!

Money talks! We are consumed by money, even if we try to pretend that money is superficial to our existence. It plays a vital role in all our lives. A person or organization with a lot of money has the power to influence decisions, whether these are right or wrong. It has infiltrated everything we do and hear these days. Money is a necessary evil!

The Beatles might have uttered the famous words “can’t buy me love!” and we have for decades heard the phrase “money can’t buy happiness.”

Both are very true phrases, but money will certainly give you a sense of relief and can make your life less stressful if you can pay your bills on time, get out of debt, go on holidays, get groceries, etc.

This week we witness a serious case of greed. A select group of 12 European football clubs, all very successful and wealthy, shared their intention of creating a super league. An ivory group of clubs to compete in an exclusive league. Their argument – it will generate a lot of money!

They failed to assess how the fans and the World would react to their plans. Once the clubs published their plans, each club experienced a significant backlash from football fans across Europe and other football organizations.

Within 24 hours, the super league plans backfired and started to dissolve as clubs realized that this was not what fans wanted – fans who support and built the clubs. These clubs are only as big as their fans, who invest their hard-earned money on merchandise and tickets.

Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Arsenal certainly felt the wrath of their fans.

It is laughable, ignorant, and naive to think that these clubs and their leadership will continue to lead their organizations. I’m certain they will shake up the hierarchy. The owner of Chelsea apparently was not fully included in the decision, and he made sure he shared his anger with his leadership team.

As such, I felt the urge to share a classic Pink Floyd track, ‘Money.’ It was first released in 1973, and I guess the view of money was somewhat similar then as it is now.

Money
It's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
...
Money
So they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a raise
It's no surprise that they're giving none away
