Third Sunday in Advent

Today is known as Gaudete Sunday.

The term Gaudete refers to the first word of the Entrance Antiphon, “Rejoice.” Rose vestments are worn to emphasize our joy that Christmas is near, and we also light the rose candle on our Advent wreath.

Despite our self-praised progress, real joy is missing from modern life. We are consumed by money, gadgets, and social media status. One could say we are walking aimlessly in the desert looking for hope.

In such a “desert,” we must look to Christ. Only He can “bring light to the darkness of our minds. Only He can bless, deliver, and forgive. Only He can “say to the faint-hearted, ‘Take courage.'”

While we light the rose candle, let us rejoice and look for a way out of the desert. Put down our phones, turn off the TV, and spend more time with family and friends.

Here’s a great song for the third Sunday in Advent, performed by the amazing for KING & COUNTRY. The album version is performed with none other than my favorite band NEEDTOBREATHE.

Go forth, sing to the mountains and rejoice.
