Date night on the sofa…

Dating your partner again.

Having kids can certainly postpone some romantic moments with your partner and it can often be difficult to find time to adult stuff; dancing, restaurant, cinema, etc.  Most of the time you end up being too tired to move from the comfort of the sofa, the kids might get ill or no one seem willing to mind your three kids for a few hours.
– nothing to do with the frogs, dog pooh or other minor incidents when the baby sitter looked after the rascals.

My wife and I enjoy spending time on the sofa, with a cup of tea/coffee, while watching a movie.  Not too different from other young parents.  I’m still amazed that some new parents can persuade somebody to mind their 3 month old baby, while they head off for a long weekend.  I get emotional every time I drop my daughter off at school, so couldn’t leave them for an entire weekend in the hands of a relative.

So, a few weeks back, we launched the AppleTV and rented a movie over iTunes (for the first time), which was brilliant.  The movie we chose was “Date Night” – a brilliant comedy with Steve Carell and Tina Fey.  In short, Steve and Tina play a couple who rarely goes out, but do attempt to get out once in a while.  They live in the suburbs of New York City.

On one date night, they get turned away from a posh restaurant, but soon borrow the identity of another couple who never showed up for their reservation.  Their evening takes a twist for the worse, and they end up being chased by criminals and policies – all while getting help from boxer shorts heart throb Mark Wahlberg.

I have to say, it’s a brilliant and very funny movie, well worth renting.  Spend a few hours with your partner, after the kids are in bed, laughing and eating popcorn.
